Aecon performed decommissioning-related work at the Savannah River Site, including dismantlement and removal, temporary HVAC and concrete removal activities.
Scope of work included supporting the transition of the prior Mixed Oxide (MOX) fuel fabrication facility at Building 226-F into the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF). While maintaining and protecting the safety significance of the structure, Aecon achieved this transition through the controlled demolition and removal of all equipment and bulk commodities previously installed as well as performing multiple internal and external structural modifications to reconfigure the facility to accept the new SRPPF process systems by removing existing walls, slabs and installing new penetrations throughout the concrete structure. Aecon was also responsible for the design, installation, testing, and maintenance of a temporary HVAC infrastructure to facilitate proper climate controls in the facility to support the application of safety-related coatings and provide an optimum work environment to support the peak manload of construction personnel throughout all of SRPPF’s future construction.
